Hello Pocock Parents!

Last email before the big trip to Regionals and Vancouver.  WooHoo!

A few reminders:

2.       All rowers need to be at the boathouse by 2: 45 on Thursday for van loading.  The van assignments and the hotel room assignments are determined by the coaches in advance.

3.       Please sign up for a shift at the food tent.

Click to open:

·                         PRC Food Tent Sign-Up Sheet

4.       Also, please remember that our team races all weekend.  This means that we need to have a tent all weekend and that we need parent volunteers and support all weekend.

5.       There is a parent gathering Friday night at the Heathman on the mezzanine level.  It begins at 6:30 and we will have a cash bar.

6.       Please make sure to respond to the evite invitation for the End of Year Banquet.  We need rsvps in by may 21 to ensure seating for all.

7.        If there is a parent who is driving down Thursday evening and who could take a rower, please let me know.  There is someone who has a class concert.

Thank you!  Liz

FW: pocock

Hello Pocock Parents!

We are in the home stretch now of the Spring Season and have a very busy two weeks in front of us.

Last night’s meeting agenda is attached.  The information sheet regarding Regionals is also attached as is  packing list.

To recap the points of the meeting:

1.        We leave for Vancouver WA next Thursday the 17th.  All rowers need to report to Pocock by 2:45.  We want to get off asap so we miss the traffic snarl around Olympia and JBLM.

2.       We have volunteer opportunities!  We could use another body or two to go down Thursday morning to help set up the tent.  We also need someone who is going Thursday afternoon to take luggage.  Respond back to me if you can do either one of these jobs.

3.       We need more help at the food tent. You should be able to click on this link to sign up for a shift.

Click to open:

·                         PRC Food Tent Sign-Up Sheet

Any questions, please email Hangyee at hangyee@aol.com  .

4.      You need to ask your rower what boats he/she is in.  The coaches will tell them and each rower is only allowed to be in up to 2 boats.  Then go to regattacentral.com, click on regattas, scroll down to NW Junior Regionals.  That is our regatta – if you click on the heat sheet you can see the anticipated times of the races.

5.        The cost of the regatta weekend is $290  per rower.  If your child has not informed the coach that he or she will be missing the regatta and is going to miss it or does miss it, you will be responsible for $100.

6.       At the regatta, all rowers are expected to stay until the end and to travel back with the team.  Once back, the rowers are expected to unload the boats as a team and then they may be picked up.

7.       There is a parent gathering at the Heathman Mezzanine on Friday evening May 18 at 6:30.  It will feature a cash bar.

8.       Please have the kids bring their Pocock polos and nice pants for the dinners out.

9.       The end of year banquet is on the 23rd of May.  We will need people to help us clean up.

10.   Please check the Pocock website for updates on the summer camps.  There are a lot of good offerings this year.  Your rower’s coach will also talk to the rowers about which camps they’d like to see the kids at.

Okay, a lot of information here.  Please email me back if you have questions.

Thanks, Liz

Pocock

Hello Pocock Parents!

A few updates and announcements:

1.        Please go to Pocock Rowing Center Facebook page for updates on Brentwood results and pictures.  Also the website http://regatta.brentwood.bc.ca/

has photos and other information.

I think that by now everyone knows that the PRC had the best showing we have ever had – truly impressive effort from all of our rowers.

2.       Next regatta is Nw Regionals.  We are having a meeting about this next Tuesday at 6:30 at the Boathouse.  Please plan to attend.  So you may be prepared, we leave Thursday May 17 after school and travel to Vancouver.  We stay at the Heathman Hotel and all of the kids rooms have been arranged.  Parents need to make their own reservations and transportation arrangements.  We come back home on Sunday May 20 and are usually back at Pocock by 6 pm.  All athletes are expected to ride to and from the regatta in the team vans unless permission is granted from Matt Lacey by May 15.

3.       If you would like to volunteer to drive a van of rowers to and from Vancouver, please let me know.  You would also be responsible for driving them to the course everyday in the morning and to dinner.  I have done this job for three years and it is actually fun and very insightful J!

4.       We also need people with large vehicles to carry luggage down on Thursday evening and come back with it on Sunday.  If you want to do wither of these jobs, please respond back. Thank you!

5.        One more request – we also need two people to head down Thursday morning to help set up the food tents.  Again please respond back if you are interested in helping out.

6.       The end of year banquet will be Wednesday May 23rd.  The venue is the lovely 415 Westlake.  An evite will be going out soon and there will be a sign up sheet for what you would like to bring.  The choices are Protein that can be served at room temp and is sliced and ready to go, grain such as quinoa, rice, potato, vegetable such as salad or roast vegetable and dessert.

7.       We’re getting to that point in the year where your friends, family, neighbors & co-workers are signing up their kids for summer activities.  Please take this opportunity to get some more kids involved in Pocock Rowing!  The summer camps are easier than ever to work into a busy summer schedule (2 week sections), they’re still inexpensive and most importantly – a terrific amount of fun.  These camps are the most impactful recruiting tools we have to keep the PRC team numbers healthy, so please SPREAD THE WORD!
http://pocockrowingcenter.org/junior-summer-camps.html

8.       A note from Hang Yee, food tent coordinator.

Pocock people rock!  Many thanks to everyone who helped organize, pack, unpack, load, unload, set up, take down, bake, purchase, prep, cook, serve, clean, transport, and whatever else was needed to get it done.  You are all aces in my book, but I have to give a special mention to those who kept me propped up.

Right Hands – Molly LaPatra and Michael Daly

Couldn't Do Without – Mari Munday and John Grant

Morning Stars (and evenings too) – Peggy-Paige and Peter Most

Outstanding Members of the Brigade de Cuisine – Jay Borseth, Robin Clark and Jay Thomas

And, of course, our fearless leader, Kathleen Brown, Lisa Van Kampen (also outstanding in the kitchen) and Daren Nitz, the best van driver north of Seattle.

And a special thanks to Cristi L Rowbotham for that delicious hot cocoa!

Thank you all!  I had a blast!

Thanks, Liz

Pocock - Urgent follow up items

Hello Pocock Parents!

This is a big email with a few items that you will need to follow up quickly.

Regarding Brentwood:

1.        On the bottom of this email is the status list of all rowers who are still missing either payment or a permission form or a medical release.  Please take a look and follow up appropriately! Medical form can be found on page 6 of the attached Jr spring registration.

2.       There will be a notary at the boathouse tonight at 6:15 for people who still need permission slips notarized.  This is the last opportunity at Pocock to do this – if you are still missing a permission slip, you will need to get it notarized from your bank or workplace notary or any other that you know of.  Permission slip is attached.

3.       We still need volunteers for food tent. Please click on link below to sign up.

PRC Food Tent Sign-Up Sheet

4.       Brentwood information sheet and packing list is attached.

5.       Packing of equipment van and food hauling vehicles will take place Wednesday, April 25 at 4pm.  Please plan to volunteer if you are not going to Brentwood.  Let Kathleen Brown KathleenHbrown@comcast.net know if you are able to help out.

Our next big regatta is Regionals down in Vancouver Washington.  This regatta takes place May 18-20 and we leave Seattle after school on the 17th.  This is the last regatta of the season.

1.       We need volunteers to work at the regatta at regatta assigned jobs like time posting, announcing etc.  If you would like to do this, please signup here. link:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0E4EACA92FAB9-2012 <http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0E4EACA92FAB9-2012>

It is best if you do this prior to Brentwood as the good jobs and times will go quickly.  Pocock has a minimum number of volunteers that we must provide so please let Kathleen Brown kathleenhbrown@comcast.net and Matt Lacey director@pocockrowingcenter.org know if you sign up.

2.       Rowers will need to decide if they are competing at Regionals by Thursday of this week.  For those who say that they are attending this will be a binding decision and we will be requiring a $100 deposit from all rowers who are intending to compete at regionals. The deposit is nonrefundable.  We need to do this because we have been experiencing last minute rower cancellations which then throws our budgeting off and leaves us with a deficit.  The $100 can be charged to your credit card on file if you email Briana at info@pocockrowingcenter.org and it will be applied to your balance owed for the regatta expense.

Thank you and I will see you in Brentwood!

Pocock and Brentwood (next week!!!)

Hello Pocock Parents!

Can you believe it – we leave for Brentwood NEXT FRIDAY (27th)morning for a weekend of rowing in the rain, wind, sun or whatever this year brings us weatherwise!

Reminders:

1.        Your rower must have their permission signed by both parents and notarized.  The notary requires both parents to be present if he is notarizing for both parents.  Parents may do this separately but it then needs to be notarized twice.

2.       The permission slip is attached if you would like to start working on it.

3.       The last time a notary will be present at the boathouse is next Monday at 6:15.

4.       The list of rowers who have properly completed the permission slip is on the bottom of this email.

5.       The brentwood parent info sheet is also attached.

6.       If your child is a coxswain on any of the squads or a rower in one of the first quad races ( they will be identified by the coaches), they may bring their luggage that would be otherwise be checked to the boathouse on Thursday night.  It will be transported up to Brentwood for them.  They should still bring their carryon on to the ferry which should have their unisuit and racing gear.

7.       Website for regatta is here: http://regatta.brentwood.bc.ca/regatta/draw-and-race-schedule.html

8.       The cost of the trip is $275 per rower.  You will be invoiced.  Please email Briana at info@pocockrowingcenter.org if you want her to just charge your credit card on file.

9.       I hope everyone has proper border documentation – passports for 16 and older, birth certificates for younger than 16.

10.   If there is any rower who is not planning on going to Brentwood, please make sure to inform your rower’s coach NOW so the rower does not get assigned a boat.

That’s it for now.

Thanks, Liz

Pocock

Hello Pocock Parents!

Okay here we go – we are entering into the real intense part of the racing season. Alot of information follows…

Follow up items from the meeting last night:

1.       The agenda that was covered is attached.

2.       The information sheet regarding Brentwood regatta is also attached.  Please review this as we have tried to answer any questions you might have on this document.

3.       As noted on the info sheet, all coxswains and the early race quad rowers (not determined yet but they will be told by their coaches if they are in these races)cannot check luggage because they are picked up at the ferry and driven to Brentwood in cars as opposed to taking the bus with everyone else.  So, if your child is one of these people and he/she was planning on bringing enough stuff to check, there will be a pickup on Thursday evening at 6 pm at the boathouse.

4.       We don’t have the exact cost for the trip yet but expect it to be around $250 per rower.

5.       We need signed and notarized permission slips from all rowers even if they are 18!  There will be a notary present at the boathouse on Monday April 16 and Monday April 23 at 6:15 pm.

6.       On Sunday night, the clipper leaves at 6 pm from Victoria.  The kids will arrive back at 8:45 at the Seattle terminal.

7.       Rowers should be wearing travel uniform on the ferry – that includes their Pocock polo and black or khaki pants.

8.       Website for regatta is here: http://regatta.brentwood.bc.ca/regatta/draw-and-race-schedule.html

9.       There will be the opportunity to order Pocock gear before Brentwood.  You can go to this website http://www.kotisdesign.com/pocockrowing put in an order.  Orders need to be placed by April 13th to ensure delivery before the Brentwood regatta.  Please email Lisa at lisavancampen@comcast.net if you have questions.

10.   The end of the year banquet will be held May 23 at 6:30 pm at 415 Westlake in South Lake Union neighborhood.  Mark your calendars as it is always a wonderful event!  Rowers and parents are invited – sorry we do not have room for extended family or siblings.

11.   This weekend is the Lake Stevens Regatta.  Only Novice Boys and Girls are attending.  There should be information coming from those coaches about this event.

There will be opportunities to volunteer at the food tent.  An email and sign up sheet will be forthcoming soon.

Thank you for your attention to this email!
